See What We’re Up To
The Center
A new youth center is in the works. Right now, we are in the renovation phase, but we have begun our youth nights in The Center every Saturday night from 7pm-9pm. We are still in need of funding and/or labor for this project so please contact us if you are able to help. Check out some of our new renovations.
What Can A Cookie Do?
For the past 10 years, we have been baking Christmas cookies and giving gifts to the community during the Christmas season. Back in 2010, one of our board members, La Tascha Brown, was deeply burdened by those who were down-and-out during the holiday season. For many, this time of year reminds them of a lost loved one, a bad divorce, a broken family, no family, or their poverty and inability to provide for their family. The Christmas season holds some of the highest suicide rates of the year. How much more this year with our teens during COVID-19! We could really use your help.
Up & Out
Transition is hard! Just because you’re 18 doesn’t mean you’re ready to go out on your own. Up & Out is designed to help see at-risk youth through the process of transition from High School to college or a trade. Learn more about how we can help.
Flag Football
As our Monday night basketball league has come to a close, our new flag football league kicked off this past Saturday. 40 young men showed up in the early morning for our opening day of flag football!
Mr. Alex gave a great half-time message about physical exercise profiting us while we are here on earth (hence the push ups you see in the photos), but there is something that will profit us eternally and that is salvation. There’s more to living on this earth than football games, work, and money. Everything we have done and everything we do means nothing unless they’re for Jesus Christ.
Every Saturday morning through October and November there will be flag football from 9am-12pm. All are welcome and encouraged to bring a friend to play or to cheer on the young men and listen to an uplifting message during halftime!
Fall Fests
For the past two Saturdays, TeenHaven.Live volunteers and Up & Out students helped bless two different local churches by staffing their Fall Fests. We set up games, did face painting, balloon animals, music, and offered a friendly face and a helping hand. We had a great turn out and started new friendships. It was a blessing to be able to help our fellow brothers and sisters reach out to the community!
Lancaster Bible College
On October 1-3, we hosted a beloved family from Onley, VA and took a crew of Up & Out’ers to Lancaster Bible College’s Open House. It’s not about the institution, although it is important to find a trustworthy one, but it is also about constantly casting the vision before these young people and saying, “You can do it”. We’re almost mid-way through our first semester with some of our younger college students and it has been very rewarding to note the success. There have been some very late nights of learning that due dates are due dates but we’re coming out on the other side. One student exclaimed, “I have never had straight A’s before! When do they release the Honor Roll?” I had to inform him that colleges don’t really have an honor roll, but his grades are something to be proud of, nonetheless.
